Thanks for a great Parade!

By all accounts the Yellow Submarine Ensemble was the favorite at the 2010 Fremont Solstice Parade. Everyone did such a great job with their costumes and variations on the theme. Kudos to the float builders, Peter Weston and friends for building a perfect submarine. Thanks to Norma and Denise for organizing and visualizing…Everyone participated and did a great job. The band was fantastic and so were the Fab Four, John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Work/ Play Parties scheduled and Update on Ensembles

Yellow Submarine Update

Lots of progress on the Yellow Submarine! And lots of opportunities for volunteers- Hope you can make it to some of these work/play parties! Time to make this ensemble ship-shape!

Friday (June 11) 6-9pm – Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Ave N)
Sunday (June 13) 12-6pm – Powerhouse
Yellow Sub and Sgt. Pepper’s bandstand floats and associated props. Fun with cardboard, paint, papier mache, and exploration of breakthrough float techniques. Help with elements like paper mache-ing the rudder, propellers, making the groovy periscopes… and other assorted fun tasks.

Thursday (June 17) 5-7:30pm
Costume workshop at the Ballard Library community room! (headed up by Jalair and Denise)
Focus will be on the groovification of you Denizens of Pepperland! This is also a great place to “plug in” if you want to join us, but don’t know where you fit in yet. Please bring solid (or striped or polka-dotted… BIG, graphic prints are best) pants/ skirt and shirts that can be cut up/ painted or otherwise altered permanently. Also bring an iron, scissors and a sewing machine if you have one. If you haven’t already spent time looking at the movie or images from the movie, PLEASE check it out BEFORE you make a costume plan…!!! Lots of images on the web and movie snips on youtube. We don’t want this to be St. Pepper meets the Grateful Dead!

Friday Nite (June 18) FLOAT MOVE! (stay tuned for time) All available hands on deck! The floats get moved down the hill to the staging area. Wear white, safety orange and/or reflective clothes, sturdy shoes, bring flashlights, glow stix… This is a blast!

And in the meantime, brush up on the words to “Yellow Submarine” and “All You Need is Love!” We hope our ensemble inspires the audience into a “sing along!”

Update on Ensembles:

Still needed:

If you are handy and available to help, please come to a float-build work party and consult with Peter to either help with glove- or the sub so he can focus on the glove…)

Young Fred: Mama Rosa riding a Norma-created sub sub (Yay!)

Story Line

A snapshot of the story line:

80,000 leagues below the sea lay Pepperland, a peaceful & beautiful place filled with happiness & music. But they are attacked by the Blue Meanies who hate music & turn the people & Pepperland blue & silent w/ anti-music missiles. Sargeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is imprisoned in giant blue bubble. Capt Fred takes the Yellow Sub (from atop a pyramid) to above the sea to find help. He lands in London. The Beatles join him in the Yellow Sub back to Pepperland to save the people & return music, love & peace to Pepperland thereby driving out the Blue Meanies. A treacherous journey ensues below the sea as they try to find their way to Pepperland. They take on a curious fellow named Jeremy along the way. When they arrive, the Blue Meanies are continuing to wage war in Pepperland. The Beatles drive them back with music, find & release their doubles, Sargeant Pepper’s LHCB Band, from the bubble. Together they bring the people back to life & successfully end the war as a united front with the people. The Blue Meanies’ Chief is outwitted by Jeremy. The Meanies transform into peaceful members of Pepperland. “ALL TOGETHER NOW!”
